Build confidence in your posts with these 3 strategies

If you’re reading this blog, you’ve probably posted on social media before. You’ve typed out some words that made sense to your brand, added a photo and voila. Social media done. 

Even with millions of people using social media every hour or every day, I still get the same questions. 

  • I don’t know what to post. 

  • I don’t know how often I should be posting. 

  • I don’t know if what I’m posting is right. 

Even though the mechanics of using social media are fairly straight forward, managing your business online is far from simple. 

Besides the strategy, there are a lot of things that can be overlooked when you’re promoting your business online. The spelling, grammar, broken links and off-brand content I’ve seen out there for some brands makes me shake my head sometimes. But those aren’t everyone’s posts. Those are the ones we learn from, so we can all do better. 

So when you’re thinking to yourself ‘I’m not even sure what to post right now.’ is it that you actually don’t have anything to post? Or is it your inner self sabotaging your work and keeping you from sharing your product or service with the internet? 

Done is better than perfect

No one picks up an iPhone, opens Instagram and knows exactly what to post. Becoming proficient on social media is a learned skill, which means the sooner you get started, the sooner you’ll be feeling confident in your posts. 

Here are 3 things you can do to bring that social media anxiety down (as far as 2020 will allow): 

Pre-schedule your content: 

Pre-scheduling your content ahead of time actually gives you more time to think about what you want to post about, edit, spellcheck and make sure it’s as good as you want it to be than simply quickly posting because you haven’t posted anything that day.

Use a Social Media Calendar: 

Plan out posts and themes ahead of time using a social media calendar. This is something you can purchase pre-planned by an industry expert, or you can also get a custom strategy developed for you. 

If you’re just getting started, pick up a planner and write out ideas around holidays, your own promotions, etc. 

So that way when the time comes to post, it’s as simple as reviewing your calendar and scheduling it out. 

Use Spell Check or Grammarly:

Having a hard time worrying about your spelling or grammar? There’s an app for that. 

I use Grammarly when I’m planning out my posts. While I don’t remember all the rules to proper grammar, there are apps to keep me on track. And planning your posts ahead of time means there’s plenty of time to have them checked beforehand. 

Practice makes proficient

That old saying ‘practice makes perfect’? It’s true when it comes to social media. The more you post, the better you will get at it and the more comfortable you’ll be. 

The worst thing you can do is let the question ‘but what do I even post about’ stop you from going online.
